Many people over the years have worried over the subject of the unpardonable sin, and rightly so. Jesus stated that there was one sin that would not be forgiven in this life or in the world to come. That would, and should cause concern. So just what is the unpardonable sin, and how can we be sure not to commit it?

One man stated, "An unpardonable sin is a sin that we do on purpose, one we won't or can't repent of. He claimed this would be sinning against God's Spirit." Is he correct? Let's think this through and then look at some scriptures to find out. What about those who have a weakness (or addiction such as drinking.) that raises its ugly head from time to time?

The question that must be answered is a person who sin’s after baptism committing the unpardonable sin because they were baptized before they overcame their addiction or weakness in the flesh? What if they never completely overcome it? Many who may believe that the unpardonable sin is a weakness that is hard to overcome should consider that the apostle Paul was also guilty of it! Paul wrote. "For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice." Rom 7:18-19. (NKJ throughout) What about the statement made by the apostle John in I Jn 1:8-9. "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

So we find by just looking at a few examples that to sin after conversion is not committing the unpardonable sin so let's take a look at what Jesus stated is the unpardonable sin recorded in Matt 12:31-32. "Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come." What was happening that caused Jesus to make this statement? What was spoken against the Holy Spirit? Let's go back up a few scriptures to get the story flow recorded in Matt 12:22-26. "Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw. And all the multitudes were amazed and said, "Could this be the Son of David?" Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, "This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons. But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?"

For more information on this let's read what is recorded in Mark 3:28-30. "Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation"--because they said, "He has an unclean spirit." Notice the very important point here is because they said, "Jesus had an unclean spirit." The Holy Spirit is the Power of God and they were calling the Holy Spirit of God evil, or that the power that Jesus was using to perform miracles was of the power of Satan.

Some ask, "can someone commit the unpardonable sin without ever being baptized or receiving the Holy Spirit?
First let's understand that Jesus was speaking to the Pharisees whom didn't have the Holy Spirit, and again, what did Jesus Himself say? "But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come." He did not say, "whoever has been converted" speaks against the Holy Spirit or "whoever knows better", although those who have received the Holy Spirit can fall away also and never be renewed as we find concerning Judas who never received the Holy Spirit and there's a great possibility that he committed the unpardonable sin. The reason I can say that he most likely committed the unpardonable sin is because he was called the son of perdition. Let's read it in John 17:12 "While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled."

This is the same term used for the one that will be condemned called the antichrist in II Th 2:3. The very word "perdition" means ruin, or to be damned and it's always used in scripture as to be damned in a way that is final as we read in 2 Pet 3:7; It states..."But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men." And in Rev 17:8. we read "The beast that you saw was, and is not, and will ascend out of the bottomless pit and go to perdition. And those who dwell on the earth will marvel, whose names are not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet is."

This leads us into another very important question, and that is, will those that accept the Mark of the Beast be committing the unpardonable sin? I'm not the one that should judge this however from what I have studied in scripture I have to conclude that they very well may be doing so. That is why there are very strong warnings in the book of Revelation not to accept the Mark of the beast. The way it looks from scripture, which we will cover, is that those who worship the beast will knowingly turn against God and take the side of Satan just like the angels that sinned and became demons.

We read in Rev 13:4-6 "So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?" Notice that they WORSHIPED the Dragon, which as we know from scripture is Satan the devil. To worship is a very strong term that denotes loyalty, and devotion. The scripture also states that the beast will blaspheme God and so it stands to reason that those who worship the beast will be in agreement as well. This means they will knowingly blaspheme the Holy Spirit by speaking evil of it. Also remember that the two witnesses will be preaching at this time and surely they will speak evil of them and their ministry thus doing the very thing Jesus warned about. These people that receive the mark are not going to be innocent and just deceived, but they are going to be evil because they turned against God and they will even murder our brethren in the most sadistic ways. The key is that they will know what they are doing! They will have made their choice! ( See study "The Choices we make" at the end of this study.)

One other key here is that those who do not accept the mark of the beast are described as being in the book of life which means they will be in the kingdom. Conversely, those who wonder after, or worship the beast are described as not being in the book of life even before the resurrection as we read above in Rev 17:8. Notice that those who DO NOT accept the mark of the beast will become spirit and the second death has no power over them. Let's read it in Rev 20:4-6. "And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years."

Now what does the book of Revelation reveal about what happens after the thousand years are finished, and what does it reveal about those who were not in the book of life? Remember those who wondered after or worshipped the beast are described as not being in the book of life. Let's read it; "Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire." Rev 20:11-15

The thing we need to keep in mind is that the scriptures do not state they will be condemned because of a tattoo. But it shows plainly that they will be condemned because they worshiped the beast. The way the scriptures put it is, (if I may us my own words.) If anyone has a reverent love and allegiance for the beast or the image of the beast, or if anyone is involved in showing their love for the beast with ceremonies, and prayers, and receives his mark on their forehead or on their hand, they shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God. You see the point is they will truly love the beast and hate the true God of heaven thus taking Satan's side in the fight to take the throne from the God family. Let's pray for those that will have to endure such evil, and suffering during this time as it very well may be some of us because not every Christian will go to the place God sends His Church for protection.

I think we all can conclude from this study that we need not worry about committing the unpardonable sin unless we knowingly make a choice to reject Jesus, and worship Satan. The problem I see today is that we are fast moving towards the generation Paul warned about in 2 Tim 3:1-7. "But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth."

Please understand that Satan is very cunning in this regard. Never forget the lesson of the Trojan horse, and how it was used to defeat those behind what they thought was a secure wall. Make no mistake about it brethren; these video games that promote witchcraft and murder are a satanic Trojan horse. When Magic is considered cool, (Harry Potter) and the self is made to be more important than anything else. When it is taught that we should kill our school- mates and teachers in order to get rid of our problems, we then become easily influenced and pliable in the hands of Satan. Given the list of ungodly characteristics above, what do you suppose many in this generation will do when the Mark of the Beast is made the choice? (See our resesrch paper on Harry Potter at the end of this study.)

There will be those who worship Satan knowing who he is, but Satan never could get them to accept the mark of the Beast unless he plays on the lust of the flesh and can convince them that he is better and will give them more than the God of heaven. Satan must use vanity and offer those that follow him a high position in his kingdom like he tried to get Jesus to accept during the 40 day fast. Satan can be very convincing when he has a person's attention and that's what he's working on today in all areas of government, commerce, religion, and games. Remember Satan is the con man's teacher and it's easy to deceive even the very elect of God when an evil spirit is working to deceive unless we stay close to God and His truth. If our motives are for greed, power over others, money, or if we are proud, and a boaster, without self-control. If we are unthankful, disobedient, and unloving, unforgiving, and slanderers, as well as a traitor. If we are haughty, and love pleasure over our love of God and His ways, then we are open for deception, and very well could receive the mark of the beast and become condemned forever.

This coming system will not allow anything less and this is the way God will separate those who are His from those who are not. This will continue all the way up to Jesus' return but the decision to remain faithful will continue to get harder as time goes on. That's why we must work hard now to come to the true love of God. This "is not" the time for doing our own thing, or for playing Church! Remember the ten virgins? Matt 25:1-13 And notice vs. 6 "And at midnight a cry was heard: 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!' Will you be ready to meet Him? Do you want to be ready?
